Medical microneedling
done properly

SkinPen Precision is not standard microneedling. It is the world’s first and only FDA-cleared microneedling device — the product against which all other microneedling tools are measured, and the only one backed by more than 90 independent validation studies.

Using a sterile, single-use needle cartridge surrounded by a proprietary BioSheath, SkinPen creates tens of thousands of controlled micro-injuries across the treatment area. These trigger the skin’s natural wound-healing cascade — recruiting growth factors, generating new vasculature, and driving collagen and elastin synthesis throughout the dermis.

The result is genuine skin remodelling: not topical hydration or surface-level improvement, but a structural rebuilding of dermal tissue that visibly reduces scarring, lines, texture irregularities, and pigmentation.

Collagen induction,
precisely controlled

SkinPen is used with Skinfuse LIFT HG — a purpose-designed hydrating gel that supports the device during treatment and optimises outcomes. The needle depth is calibrated to your specific concern and skin type: deeper for acne scarring and stretch marks, shallower for fine lines and texture refinement.

SkinPen is one of the very few resurfacing treatments that is safe and effective across all skin tones, including darker Fitzpatrick types where laser and chemical peel treatments carry significant risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Dr Sabrina assesses suitability and treatment parameters at your initial consultation.

The three-phase
wound-healing cascade

I

Inflammation Phase

Immune Activation

The controlled micro-injuries trigger an immediate immune response. The body disinfects the wounds, increases localised blood flow to the area, and begins recruiting growth factors and platelets. This initialises new tissue formation and marks the start of the remodelling process.

II

Proliferation Phase

New Tissue Formation

A new network of blood vessels develops around the treatment site as the body begins rebuilding the wound. New granulation cells are formed, the extracellular matrix is repopulated, and fibroblasts begin depositing the precursors to new collagen and elastin fibres.

III

Remodelling Phase

Collagen Synthesis

The temporary wound matrix is gradually replaced with mature dermal tissue — new collagen fibres, elastin, and a restored vascular network. This phase continues for weeks after treatment and accounts for the progressive nature of SkinPen results, which continue improving for months after each session.

Conditions SkinPen
is clinically proven to improve

Acne Scarring

One of the most significant use cases for SkinPen. The controlled micro-injury breaks down disorganised scar collagen and replaces it with new, normally-structured tissue — improving atrophic ice-pick, rolling, and boxcar scars over a course of sessions.

Fine Lines & Wrinkles

Collagen induction therapy restores dermal thickness and improves the structural integrity of skin, visibly reducing fine lines and softening deeper wrinkles without the downtime or risks associated with laser resurfacing.

Skin Texture & Tone

Uneven skin texture, enlarged pores, and surface roughness all respond well to SkinPen treatment as new collagen and elastin normalise the dermal matrix and improve the integrity of the overlying epidermis.

Melasma & Hyperpigmentation

SkinPen can improve melasma and irregular pigmentation, particularly when combined with medical-grade skincare such as Obagi. It is one of the few resurfacing options suitable for darker skin tones where other treatments risk worsening pigmentation.

Rosacea

SkinPen has been clinically shown to reduce rosacea symptoms — improving redness, skin sensitivity, and the visible vascular changes associated with the condition when treated as part of a structured programme.

Stretch Marks & Scarring

Stretch marks and other forms of scarring — including post-surgical and trauma scars — can be significantly improved with SkinPen as the collagen induction process remodels the scar tissue structure.

What happens
during your session

01

Numbing

Topical anaesthetic is applied to the treatment area and left for 20 minutes before treatment begins. This makes the session very comfortable for the vast majority of patients.

02

Assessment

Dr Sabrina assesses your skin, confirms your suitability, explains the procedure in detail, and sets the appropriate needle depth for your specific concern — acne scarring, fine lines, pigmentation, and so on each require different parameters.

03

Treatment

SkinPen is carefully glided across the treatment area with Skinfuse LIFT HG. Tens of thousands of micro-injuries are created across the skin. Mild erythema and possible micro-spotting confirm correct depth has been achieved.

04

Recovery

Skin will appear red — similar to mild sunburn — for up to 24 hours. Tightness, dryness, and mild irritation are normal in the days following. Most patients return to work the same day or the following day.

Frequently asked questions

SkinPen Precision is the world’s first FDA-cleared microneedling device — the only one backed by over 90 independent validation studies and CE marked for European use. It creates controlled micro-injuries using a sterile, single-use needle cartridge, triggering the skin’s natural three-phase wound-healing cascade to regenerate collagen, elastin, and healthy dermal tissue. It is clinically proven effective across all skin tones, from very light to very dark.
SkinPen Precision is clinically proven to improve fine lines and wrinkles, acne scarring, melasma, rosacea, hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone, stretch marks, and other forms of scarring including trauma and surgical scars. It can be used on the face, neck, décolletage, and body.
A course of three sessions, spaced one month apart, is recommended to achieve optimal results. The collagen synthesis process takes time — visible improvement typically builds progressively across the course, with full results apparent several weeks after the third session. Maintenance sessions every six months sustain collagen production and results thereafter.
Yes — this is one of SkinPen’s most important clinical advantages. Laser resurfacing and many chemical peel treatments carry a significant risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in darker Fitzpatrick skin types. SkinPen works mechanically, without heat or chemical exfoliation, making it safe and effective across all skin tones. Dr Sabrina will advise on treatment parameters at consultation.
Both use microneedling to stimulate collagen, but Cutera Secret PRO combines microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) energy — delivering controlled heat into the mid-dermis for more pronounced skin tightening and resurfacing. SkinPen works through mechanical micro-injury alone, making it gentler and suitable for a wider range of skin tones. For patients with significant laxity or very deep scarring, Secret PRO may be the stronger option. For patients with darker skin, a sensitivity to heat, or a preference for a gentler protocol, SkinPen is often the better choice. Dr Sabrina will advise which is most appropriate at consultation.
